The Importance of RSVP
Let’s chat about those 4-letters we've all seen together, before... R.S.V.P.
~ RSVP is actually a French expression, Répondez S’il Vous Plait. Translation being, to “please respond.” When you receive an invitation requesting for you to RSVP; it means the host is asking for you to let them, know whether or not you will be attending their wedding or special event.
-The Cause and Effect of RSVP:
The RSVPs will assist the host in estimating how many guest will attend their wedding or event, among other things. This is important because the venue may have limited space. And, we all know that, not having enough space or enough hors d’oeuvres for the number of attendees will not be a good experience for anyone.
In the case of planning a wedding; the reception can be the biggest expense. The need to know how much food, alcohol, and waitstaff to allocate in the budget without being unexpectedly surprised at the event; is an absolute necessity.
-A Timely Reply to an RSVP:
You must RSVP on time, because there are deadlines to be met. The host has to give a final head count for the caterers, the bakery, the venue, and the list goes on. There could be extenuating circumstances, in most cases when the host has to make change beyond the date they're contractually being held to. For example; the host could incur extra costs for having to pay unnecessary monies for guests who never responded ("no shows") or for unannounced guests ("wedding crashers").
How the RSVP Benefits Guests:
As you know, many people have dietary restrictions. Replying may be the difference between a vegetarian receiving a meat entree or someone with food allergies missing their opportunity to register their need for a different meal selection. Essentially, the RSVP is a common courtesy that works for both the guest and the host. A simple check of a box & the stuffing of a paid postage envelope, keeps everyone smiling and ready for the magical celebration.
